I’m so excited to introduce y’all to two of my favorite people: Sarah and Kristen, also known as The Proper Petal. They are two positive people in the wedding industry and I absolutely adore working alongside them! They instantly put a smile on my face when I find out I get to work with them for an event or wedding! They’re so good at what they do and really serve their clients well.

Plus, they like to make up their own words to songs like me! So you know they’re fun! 🙂

Anyway, enough of my rambling! Get to know these sweet ladies and learn more about their awesome business! Oh, and see some of my favorite shots of their incredible creations! 🙂

We met a few years ago through the floral industry working side by side and have been “petal-pals” ever since, spending many a late night and weekend creating arrangements while jamming out to 80s tunes. We recognized a need to create a floral service that is truly custom and client-oriented, focusing on tailoring floral design to perfectly complement each wedding or event. Out of that came The Proper Petal.

The name was definitely a labor of love, but after countless texts with lots of not-so-great names and the discovery of our shared love for alliteration, we stumbled upon The Proper Petal and instantly knew it was right.

Why flowers? What makes this your passion? Flowers make everyone happy. They’re the icing on the cake, the cherry on the sundae. They’re that finishing touch that pulls everything else together. Arranging flowers is such a purely creative process too. Whether the client’s style and aesthetic matches yours completely or not, there’s always a little bit of the florist to be seen in every arrangement if you know what to look for.

What has been one of your favorite moments in your business so far? It’s not just one moment, it’s a cumulative moment. Every time we finish, take a step back, and get to see what we created together is the best moment especially the bigger installations. There’s nothing quite like seeing your vision come to life with 250 blooms affixed to a wall or 160-feet of garland adorned with candles and flowers.

Tell me about your dream client: It’s always fun when a client’s style matches your own. You get to create something that you would want on your dinner table or at your wedding. Sounds cliche but equally as great is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and create something unique. Hahaha I guess a dream client would be one that wants all ranunculus everywhere!

We love the opportunity to create something different, something new. We have a stash of photos and inspiration saved up for that special client that gives us carte blanche or for a rainy day photo shoot that we can’t wait to see come to life. Floral walls and hanging elements are some our favorite and a nod back to the very first event we did as The Proper Petal.

Music and the flowers of course! There is never a quiet moment when we’re creating for a wedding or event whether it be 80s, Taylor Swift, 90s boy bands, or hipster BBQ radio, there is constantly music playing in the background. Always toe tapping, humming along, or singing at the top of our lungs when our better halfs happen to be out of the house. Music is one of the only ways we’ve found to push through that last bouquet at 2 am. That and ice cream 😊

Following your passion can be tiring and overwhelming and down right frustrating especially at first when you’re juggling a full time gig, relationships, and everything else that comes with real life. Most important is to stay true to yourself and what you value. You never want your dream to feel like a chore so be sure you take time out for yourself, your friends, your partner.
