remember that random day of almost 70 degree weather about a week ago? that day was good for my soul. and by good, i mean, absolutely vital for my existence. i’m not trying to overreact here, just being honest. for me, the winter nearly sucks the life out of me. i love a good rainy day as much as the next person or a chilly day to snuggle up with some hot cocoa, but after a while, i am ready for the sunshine. i NEED the sunshine. without it, i start getting bummed out and just kinda blah!
that day was marvelous. everything just felt so much better because it was warmer ( a nice change from the yucky cold) and so so sunny! it made my heart yearn for spring and i felt so much more alive. i need more days like that day! it was good for me. not only was the day gorgeous, but i also got to spend time with one beautiful ballerina and her sweet sister! when i found out the weather was going to be good that weekend, i asked mary-virginia if she was free that sunday. thankfully she was and we were able to make this vision come to life. back in college, i made a list of things i would like to photograph and a dancer was definitely one of them. i knew i wanted it to be something different and more out of the box for me, so we tried this idea and went with it. i am so glad we did. i haven’t had so much fun shooting like this. don’t get me wrong, i basically LOVE any photo shoot. they’re all fun and all have a special place to me in my heart, but this one was different. it was the first shoot i’ve done for myself in a while and it felt good. it was good for my soul. just like the weather. it was nice to just create and do without worrying about the end result. i loved it!
this just means that shoots like this need to happen more often! haha. it was like therapy! i am so in love with these photos! these are some of my favorite i have ever taken! i had so much fun doing this and i am so thankful that mary-virginia was able to help my vision come alive! thanks for being such a beautiful ballerina and a sweetheart! i had a blast and can’t wait to do more “shoots for the soul” in the future haha.
i hope you enjoy these photos and maybe they’ll inspire you to shoot for your soul and do something personal!

Whatever that big round thing she was standing in front of, it made for an awesome backdrop!
LOVE! The reflection ones especially .. gorgeous work, dear!
These look beautiful!!! I adore ballet and would adore to do a photoshoot like this. You captured her perfectly!! I agree with what Abby Grace said about that big round thing as a background! I love the shot of a close-up of her standing on pointe.
These are BEAUTIFUL pictures! Stunning subject, wonderful photographer, and breathtaking backgrounds.
The pictures with her reflection in the water…..GAHHHHH! (I hope that one word expresses how much I love them, haha)
OH MY GOODNESS, ASHLEY! THEY ARE STUNNING! Breathtaking. Inspiring. They make me want to push myself out of my comfort zone.
Ashley, these are INCREDIBLE! My favorites are with the sunflares and the ones where her reflection is in the river. Great job!!!
These pictures are absolutely amazing. I know I am bias but the photography is fantastic, as is the subject and and the photographer.
GORGEOUS girl!! You inspired me to finally chase my dreams of doing my own ballerina shoot, too!! I’ve been wanting to do it for the past 3 years. Thanks for the inspiration! You are wonderful 🙂
