back when i was a sophomore in college, i did a project on “famous photographs.” this was probably one of my favorite projects i ever did because it was right up my alley. i got to surf the web for the most iconic images of our time and get a grade for it. AWESOME! obviously, there are way more than 13 photographs. these are just some of my personal favorites. i feel like they tell a story. here they are. i hope you enjoy! feel free to share some of your favorite photographs throughout time. 🙂

afghan girl

this well-known photograph was taken of a 12-year old girl after becoming a refugee. to see the current photo of the girl, click here. personally, this is one of my all-time favorite images. the rawness of this photograph captivates me. her eyes seem to know things far beyond her years. beautiful!

stopping time (1964)

this is one of the first action photographs taken.

first footstep on the moon

“that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” -neil armstrong

the beatles (abbey road)

this is  one of the most iconic images in musical history.

lunch atop a skyscraper

these men were dangling 69 stories in the air when this photograph was being taken in NYC.

how the life begins (1965)

this is one of the first endoscopic photographs ever taken.

raising the flag

ground zero spirit 9/11

this image can relate to all of us. i remember exactly where i was when this moment in history happened. it will forever haunt my memories. i am still so thankful for every hero who fought to protect us that day and for every hero that still fights to save us.

migrant mother

this image is of a mother of 7 after she sold her tent to buy food for her children. for many people, this photograph is the epitome of the great depression.

tiananmen square

this is a photo of a student who tried to stop the tanks in tiananmen square.

the first photograph EVER

the first surviving photograph. this photograph had an 8-hour exposure time. i always thought it looked like a ufo haha.

marilyn monroe (the seven year itch)

the vj day kiss

fun fact: this sailor was going around kissing every girl he saw. a photographer just happened to capture him kissing this particular nurse. after the quick smooch, the nurse slapped him. 🙂 this photograph is also another one of my personal favorites. the back story completely throws off the romance and adds character!

**i do not own any of these images and received all information from the internet**
